A return today to my sonnet crown narrative. This sonnet depicts an earlier part of the story where our hero is noticing the crisis all around him and realises he may have to act.
Silence Falls
It’s deeds, not words, that are loudest spoken,
but in our haste, that’s too easy to forget.
A kind smile, kind hands or some small token
of such common love can save a life yet.
Walking to his work that same sweet morning
our hero starts to notice what is lost
for when he looks, the world is dull and boring
as joy, and laughter, and song are all gone.
The world stops and rhyme and rhythm breaks
hard to see when there but so missed when dead
our hero’s heart and soul did sorely ache
but all around kept going for their bread.
Hear now, on the air a slight melody.
Press on, only you can end this tragedy.
